Resolution

This error is commonly caused by one of three issues. Start with Scenario 1. If the error continues after completing those steps, proceed to Scenario 2, then Scenario 3 if needed.

Scenario 1: The QuickBooks desktop shortcut is no longer opening the company file correctly

The QuickBooks desktop shortcut may no longer be opening the company file from the location used by PropertyBoss and PB Remote. The file location must match for PB Remote to connect to the QuickBooks company file. To open the company file directly from its saved location:

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. Navigate to the location where the QuickBooks company file is saved.
  3. Double-click the company file to open it in QuickBooks.
  4. If the company file is stored on a shared server, open it using the mapped drive letter, rather than the server location. The file path used by QuickBooks must match the file path configured in PB Remote.
  5. Attempt to interface again.
  6. If the interface is successful after opening the company file directly, the existing QuickBooks shortcut may need to be recreated.

If the error continues, proceed to Scenario 2.

Scenario 2: The QuickBooks company file location needs to be updated in PB Remote

If the QuickBooks company file has been moved or the file location has changed, PB Remote may need to be updated to point to the correct location. To update the QuickBooks company file location:

  1. Have all users log out of the QuickBooks.
  2. Close QuickBooks on the workstation where you are completing these steps.
  3. Open PB Remote.
  4. Go to Define Accounting Files.
  5. Click Locate next to QuickBooks Company File.
  6. Navigate to the location where the QuickBooks company file is saved.
  7. Select the company file and click OK to save the location.
  8. Navigate to that same location on your workstation and double-click the company file to open it in QuickBooks.
  9. If the company file is stored on a shared server, open it using the mapped drive letter, rather than the server location. The file path used by QuickBooks must match the file path configured in PB Remote.
  10. Attempt to interface again.

If the error continues, proceed to Scenario 3.

Scenario 3: Multiple versions of QuickBooks are installed

When QuickBooks is upgraded, the newer version may be installed alongside the previous version rather than replacing it. If multiple versions of QuickBooks are installed on the computer, PB Remote may be unable to connect to the QuickBooks company file. To check for and remove older versions:

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. Open Add or Remove Programs on your computer.
  3. In Search this list, enter QuickBooks.
  4. Review the results for multiple versions of QuickBooks.
  5. If an older version is installed, select it and choose Uninstall.
  6. Restart your computer.
  7. Open QuickBooks and attempt to interface again.
