How Printing Works

Printing to Your Local Default Printer

When Your Local Default Printer is selected and the green C printer is set to a physical printer:

  1. PropertyBoss creates an .ini file containing print settings.
  2. A .pdf copy of the document is generated.
  3. The .ini file is updated with a .prd extension when the settings are passed to the printer.
  4. The PDF file is updated with a .prd extension when the document is sent for printing.
  5. The document prints to the selected printer.

Printing to Microsoft Print to PDF

When Your Local Default Printer is selected and the green C printer is set to Microsoft Print to PDF:

  1. PropertyBoss creates an .ini file containing print settings.
  2. A PDF copy of the document is generated.
  3. The .ini file is updated with a .prd extension as the print request is processed by Windows.
  4. The PDF file is updated with a .prd extension as the document is processed by Windows.
  5. A Save As dialog appears.
  6. The user selects a file name and save location.
  7. The PDF is saved to the selected location.

Save as PDF on Local Machine

When Save as PDF on Local Machine is selected:

  1. PropertyBoss creates an .ini file containing print settings.
  2. A PDF copy of the document is generated.
  3. The print settings file is converted to a .prd file.
  4. The PDF document is automatically moved into the saved subfolder.
  5. The document remains available for future access.

Troubleshooting

I Cannot Find a Recently Printed Report

If a report cannot be located:

  1. Verify the report was successfully generated in PropertyBoss.
  2. Confirm the report was created within the last five days.
  3. Check the 'pb_reports' on the local C: drive.
  4. Review the 'saved' subfolder if the report was saved as a PDF.
  5. Search Windows Explorer for the report name or file extension.

I Cannot Open a .PRD File

If a .prd file will not open:

  1. Move the file to a folder outside of pb_reports.
  2. Remove the .prd extension from the filename.
  3. Verify the file now ends with .pdf.
  4. Open the file using your preferred PDF viewer.
  5. If necessary, right-click the file and select Open With to choose a PDF application.
