Parallels is a program that lets your Mac run Windows at the same time as macOS. It’s like having a Windows computer inside your Mac—without replacing anything on your Mac.

  • You need Parallels because the PropertyBoss RDP Client only runs on Windows. After Parallels is installed, you’ll install Windows and then install the PropertyBoss RDP Client.
  • Nothing about how you access PropertyBoss changes—Parallels simply provides the Windows environment needed to make it work on your Mac.
  • After everything is set up, you’ll open the RDP Client in Windows and access PropertyBoss Online just as you normally would on any Windows computer.

You can purchase and download Parallels Desktop from the Parallels website.

  • Note: PropertyBoss is not affiliated with Parallels and does not sponsor it. You will need a separate Parallels account to purchase Parallels. For Parallels installation or troubleshooting, contact Parallels Support.

If you follow these steps, your Mac will be fully equipped to run the tools required for your work without needing a separate Windows PC.

Install Parallels on a Mac

Before you start: Make sure you have an internet connection, an admin login on your Mac, and enough free disk space for Windows (typically 20–30 GB or more, depending on your Windows version and apps).

  1. Go to the Parallels website and download the Parallels Desktop installer.
  2. Open your Downloads folder, then double-click the Parallels installer (.dmg) file.
  3. When the installer window opens, double-click Install Parallels Desktop.
  4. If prompted, enter your Mac administrator username and password to allow the install.
  5. Follow the on-screen prompts to accept the license agreement and complete the installation.
  6. When the installation finishes, open Parallels Desktop.
  7. Sign in to your Parallels account (or create one) when prompted.
  8. Enter your license key or choose a subscription/trial option, then activate Parallels.
  9. Restart your Mac if Parallels prompts you to do so.

Install Windows in Parallels

Before you start: You may need a Windows license key. Parallels can download Windows for you during setup, or you can use a Windows ISO file provided by your organization.

  1. Open Parallels Desktop.
  2. Select File > New (or click the + button) to create a new virtual machine.
  3. Choose Get Windows from Microsoft (recommended) or choose Install Windows or another OS from a DVD or image file if you have a Windows ISO.
  4. If you are using an ISO file, select the Windows ISO and click Continue.
  5. Choose your primary use (for example, Productivity), then click Continue.
  6. Name the virtual machine (for example, Windows) and choose where to save it, then click Create.
  7. When the Windows installer starts, follow the prompts to select language/region and complete setup. Enter your Windows product key if prompted (or select the option to enter it later, if available).
  8. Once Windows finishes installing and you reach the desktop, allow Parallels to install Parallels Tools when prompted (this improves display, mouse/keyboard, and performance).
  9. In Windows, run Windows Update and restart if needed.

Tip: If your organization requires specific settings (company Microsoft account, device encryption, antivirus, etc.), complete those steps after Windows is installed.

Install and Launch the Windows RDP Client

Important: These steps are completed inside Windows (running in Parallels), not in macOS.

  1. Start Windows in Parallels and sign in.
  2. Open a web browser, preferably Chrome or Edge.
  3. Go to PropertyBoss Online and sign in using your PropertyBoss credentials.
  4. Go to the Support tab and select PropertyBoss RDP Client for Windows
  5. Download and install the client. If prompted, allow any required permissions.
  6. When installation is complete, click the Home tab to return to the main screen to launch PropertyBoss.

If you can’t connect: Confirm you are in Windows (inside Parallels). Then, verify the PropertyBoss RDP Client is installed (check the Windows Start menu). If it’s installed but won’t connect, re-check your username/password and any connection details provided by your organization. If you still can’t connect, contact PropertyBoss Support.
