Overview
With the transition from the legacy PropertyBoss desktop application to PropertyBoss Online, some clients have noticed that text, buttons, and screens may appear too small or difficult to read, especially on high resolution monitors such as 4K displays.
This document explains why this occurs, why display behavior is different than before, and how clients can adjust their setup using monitor selection or Windows display scaling to achieve the best experience.
Why PropertyBoss Display Behavior Changed
How PropertyBoss Worked Before
Previously, PropertyBoss was installed directly on your computer using a downloaded installer. Because it was a locally installed application, the software could interact directly with your computer’s operating system and graphics settings.
This allowed PropertyBoss to manage certain visual elements internally, such as font size and screen scaling, regardless of monitor type or resolution.
How PropertyBoss Online Works Now
PropertyBoss Online is a browser-based application. There is no longer a downloaded installer or locally installed software controlling how the application is displayed.
Instead, PropertyBoss Online relies on how Windows and your web browser interpret your monitor’s resolution and scaling settings. This means:
- PropertyBoss Online does not override Windows display settings
- The application displays based on what Windows reports to the browser
- Very high resolution monitors can make text and icons appear smaller
This change is not unique to PropertyBoss. It applies to most modern browser-based business applications.
Why 4K Monitors Can Cause Display Issues
4K monitors display a very large number of pixels in a small physical space. While this creates sharp images, it can also cause applications to appear scaled down.
When Windows scaling is set too low on a 4K monitor, text and interface elements may appear:
- Too small to read comfortably
- Crowded or compressed
- Difficult to interact with
Because PropertyBoss Online follows Windows display rules, adjusting your monitor setup or scaling is the correct solution.
Recommended Solutions
Clients can resolve display issues using one of the following methods.
Option One: Use a Different Monitor
Using a non 4K monitor or a physically larger monitor often provides the best experience.
- A larger monitor allows more screen space without shrinking text
- Standard HD or QHD monitors typically display PropertyBoss at a comfortable size
- This is often the easiest solution for office environments
If you already have an additional monitor available, connecting it is strongly recommended.
Option Two: Connect an External Monitor
If you are using a laptop with a high-resolution screen, connecting an external monitor can significantly improve readability.
How to Connect an External Monitor on Windows
- Plug the monitor into your computer using HDMI DisplayPort or USB C
- Turn on the monitor
- Right click on your desktop and select Display settings
- Scroll to Multiple displays
- Select Extend these displays
- Choose the external monitor as your primary display if desired
Once connected, open PropertyBoss Online on the external monitor and review the display size.
Option Three: Adjust Windows Display Scaling
If changing monitors is not possible, adjusting Windows scaling will improve the appearance of PropertyBoss Online.
How to Adjust Scaling in Windows
- Right click on your desktop
- Select Display settings
- Under Scale and layout locate the Scale option
- Increase the scale value to 125 percent or 150 percent
- Close and reopen your browser
After adjusting scaling, PropertyBoss Online should appear larger and easier to use.
Note: Some users may need to test different scaling values to find the most comfortable setting.
Why PropertyBoss Cannot Control This Internally
Because PropertyBoss Online runs inside a web browser:
- It cannot override Windows display settings
- It cannot force custom scaling for individual users
- It must follow system level display rules
This is a limitation of modern browser-based applications, not a defect in PropertyBoss Online.
Summary
- PropertyBoss Online displays according to Windows and monitor settings
- 4K monitors often require scaling adjustments
- Using a non 4K or larger monitor is recommended when possible
- Windows display scaling can be adjusted to improve readability
- This behavior is expected with browser based software and differs from the older installed version
