A Quick Reference Guide


When our founders created PropertyBoss, they went all in on the brand - naming various tools, systems, and services around the PropertyBoss name. This can sometimes be confusing, so we’ve created this quick fact sheet to help clarify what each “PropertyBoss” refers to and how it’s used.

PropertyBoss (The Core Software)

What it is: PropertyBoss is our flagship property management software, used by professional management companies (PMCs) to handle day-to-day operations such as tenant records, accounting, maintenance, and more.

Important: PropertyBoss is not a web-based software. Web-based software is a program or application that you access through a web browser (like Chrome, Edge, or Safari) over the internet—without needing to download or install anything on your computer. A download and installation is required to before PropertyBoss can be opened. 


Types of PropertyBoss Environments

  • Hosted (Current Standard) - Your PropertyBoss software is stored, accessed, and automatically backed up on our secure company servers. This is the only option we offer today.
  • Self-Hosted (Retired in 2021) - Previously, clients could install and maintain PropertyBoss on their own servers or computers. If you see “self-hosted” used in older documentation, it’s likely referencing this now-retired option that required us to distinguish between “hosted” and “on-premise” setups.


PropertyBoss RDP (Remote Desktop Access)

What it is: A tool that allows you to access the PropertyBoss software remotely via your desktop or laptop.


Need to know: You must install a program called the PropertyHost Client to connect to PropertyBoss using this method.


PropertyHost

Purpose: This is the website used to open PropertyBoss through the PropertyHost Client (which establishes the RDP connection). It’s primarily known for it’s green Connect button, but it’s also used to manages user accounts and company messages and to update a user’s profile. 


Important: The PropertyHost website will be shutdown in September 2026. Everyone will have to use PB Online to open PropertyBoss after this occurs.

PropertyBoss Online (PB Online)

Purpose: A web-based platform that provides access to basic PropertyBoss functionality. Also, PropertyBoss is opened from here.


Need to know: You must install a program called the PropertyHost Client to connect to PropertyBoss.
