PropertyBoss is used in a number of different segments of property management including third-party residential, commercial, marinas, multi-family, student housing, associations, condos, etc. The PropertyBoss Language Translation feature provides the ability to tailor the language/terminology of PropertyBoss windows and reports to specific needs. In addition, this feature can be used to tailor the terms PropertyBoss uses to your specific industry. For example, the term Tenant could be translated to Resident, Student, Homeowner, Member, etc.

Predefined Languages
PropertyBoss is delivered with a list of predefined languages including default translation sets for:
- Third-Party Management
- Association Management
- Commercial Management
- Multi-Family Properties
- PropertyCert Properties
- Student Housing Properties
Customizing a Predefined Language
The PropertyBoss predefined languages should not be changed. PropertyBoss will deliver updates to predefined languages with each new version. New versions of the predefined language always overlay the current version. Instead of modifying the predefined languages, create a new language and copy from the predefined language.
Defining a New Language
There are two ways to create a new language:
- Create a New Language: Create a new language and enter all translations from scratch.
- New from Copy: Copy an existing language as the basis for creating a new language. This option opens the Copy Language window.
After defining the name of the language, the Enter Global Translations, Translate Specific Window/Object, and the Review All Translations options will be used to enter the translation values.
Assigning the New Language
Now that the new Language has been defined, it must be assigned. If multiple User IDs exist, the language must be assigned to each user; otherwise, they will still see the default language.
- To assign to multiple users: Click Setup Preferences > Security Settings > Create Users and Assign Security/ Permissions
- To assign to the current user: Click Setup Preferences> Personal Preferences
Viewing a Window or Report Untranslated
If there is a problem with the translation on a window or report, view the window/report without any translations applied. Hold down the Ctrl key when opening the window/report to display untranslated.
Exporting and Installing a New Language
The Export and Install options can be used to quickly share a language between multiple domains. When exporting a language, PropertyBoss creates a file with the language name. To install a language, copy the language file from the original saved location and the file to the other domains. The language will then be available for installation.
How New Software Updates Affect Translations
PropertyBoss delivers updates to the cross-reference of words/phrases and the standard PB_ languages with every release. You do not need to do anything special during the upgrade process to handle these languages.
For languages that you create, PropertyBoss automatically implements your global translations against the new cross reference. This step ensures any new text delivered with PropertyBoss has the global translations applied.
If you have entered specific translations for windows/reports, they will also be implemented during the upgrade. You will need to review the translations in case we deliver new text or modify existing text.
